Anecdote for these pics: Peter had a monthly "Singing Day" at pre-school, which he loathes. After several painful performances (mostly for him; I'm used it) in which he'd hunch over on the floor, or stand with his head buried in the bulletin board rather than be watched, we had let him skip a couple, deciding they were counterproductive. But on this day, we told him he would stay. We said he didn't have to sing or do any hand motions. We just asked that he follow the teachers' (sit/stand) directions, be brave, and keep a happy heart. And that if he could do those things, we'd celebrate with ice cream afterward. I don't really think the ice cream was a factor actually, but he stood bravely that day, smiling at his mama. No singing or motions of course, but I was cheering him on.
And so we ate ice cream.
