I posted this on FaceBook on Anna's birthday:
2 years ago you came fast and furious, a little complicated (but God spared us the c-section!), swollen and bruised and so beautiful to my longing eyes. I held you, alert and grasping, slippery, still connected for a last moment--and then not. We snuggled and nursed--o holy moment--and then you and your daddy and the nurses took you to get checked out and I lay there alone, stunned that it was over already--Did that all just happen? Is she real?--in silence and wonder as I hovered on the brink of this new season, new person, taking flight. I kept hovering (seriously--where was everybody?), and finally they let me go to you and hold your little hand and search your sweet swollen face. My daughter.
And here we are on your 2nd Birthday, Anna Frances. I love who you are. Year by year may you continue to grow in beauty of spirit, of character, of mind, of strength drawn from your King Jesus. I am thrilled for this next wondrous year I get to spend with you, enjoying and teaching each other about the God who made us, loves us, and died to bring us to Himself.
And on this day Anna's heart's desire was fulfilled: Purple ice cream...with purple syrup (all made from scratch by Daddy)....
...and purple cake. Which we got to share with a couple friends who stopped by.
Thanks, family, for the dress-up clothes
...and swords!
So, loathe to let the celebration be done, after naps we headed to the Rio for a little more family celebration.
Anna's first carousel. At first, it looked like this...
But she was quickly won over to the magic, weeping bitterly when it ended.
And because my children are experts at taking turns smiling/frowning:
