A Fond Farewell

He has been a good friend, a faithful companion. But little boys get bigger, and infant carseats don't.

I held out as long as I could. Or rather, way longer than I should. The NHTSA may haul me away for this. It's hard to give up the convenience afforded by that brilliant bit of innovation that is the baby carrier carseat, but we must protect that sweet head now right at the top of it.

The car seat has seen us through a lot of life (and growth!) so far. A retrospective:

2 Months                                         4 Months

6 Months                                       9 Months

Thank you, car seat, for all the rides you were ready to protect my boy; for all easy click-click transfers from car to stroller frame; for all the times I carried three bags of groceries and you and Peter in the other hand (yesterday); for all the afternoons when we snuck out of the car, into the house, and up two flights of stairs to let Peter stay asleep in your cradle for another hour. You have served us well, old friend.

So now this big crazy boy moves into this big plush roomy convertible carseat I installed today, and we say a grateful goodbye. But we hope it's not a final one, and that this dear green and charcoal Chicco Keyfit 30 will return to carry yet another scrawny sleepy wee Martinling on it's first travels in a big new world.
