A few weeks back we took the kids (love saying that--the kids) to the zoo. Just something I've looked forward to for forever. Though our little flock be young, and there was a chance of rain, we decided to go for it and set out on our adventure. Anna donned her finest zoo garb and Peter prepped for the friends he hoped to encounter.
His first encounter:
Onward!
Though we brought the double stroller, this was Anna's mode of transportation for the first 95% of our time at the zoo.
We then spied a hungry cheetah waiting impatiently for his breakfast, and some hoofed friends.
(The hoofed friends were not the breakfast.)
Some bird watching: estuary birds and big ostrich types
Aaaand....Flamingoes!! In all their glory...
Peter was a fan. But around this point he became more excited about climbing the fences.
We all enjoyed the elephants.
(Anna loved the part where the elephant throws trunkloads of dirt on himself.)
Peter and the Gorillas
My sweet friendly boy. Yes, in the second picture he is trying to give her a kiss.
Lunchtime for the Orangutan
Little Bao Bao was up in a tree when we hit up the Pandas, but here's (his mom?) chowing down.
As is the sage tortoise, trying to mooch the neighbors' grass.
The cubs.
They really were delightful.
Hats off to my Tom. He did most of the Peter-wrangling, which was no small task, especially when I was nursing. Though we had some rough moments, Peter loved the zoo, and Anna helpfully slept through the whole thing. The day was gorgeous.
Not particularly apropos of this post, but you are looking just beautiful these days, Mama of Two. All of the love in your life suits you very well.
