One More Mega-Post

This is my last "catch-up" post from my backlog of pictures. Since this blog is as much for our own memories as for all our dear family and friends far-flung, I shan't apologize for my lack of moderation in photo-sharing. However, Tom pointed out that I should give more context or explanation for some of them. So here I go.

Here's one of my favorite pictures of my two favorite men. Some Saturday I came down from feeding Peter to find Tom just waking up from a nap. Peter was delighted to snuggle in with him.

This also marks the early days of Peter's face fixation.  I love those sweet moments when he stops nursing and looks up at me, cooing, and reaches out and gently explores my face with his hand. Lately, though, he's a little less gentle and a lot more exploratory. It's not uncommon for his hand to shoot up straight into my mouth and latch a death-grip around my lower teeth. It's a little strange, but still kind of sweet in a non-squeamish "mom's life" kind of way. It was a bit less sweet when a friend was holding him last week and he did the same.

Here's Peter hanging out on the bed as I fold clothes. He fills out his bumbo seat a little better these days. In this instance, he played for a bit, and then retired for a leisurely snuggle with Mr. Yellow Crinkly Giraffe while we listened to some Jewel lullabies that Aunt Anne and Uncle Scott sent him.

After his nap. He is often at his most talkative just before and after his naps. He squirms around his crib a lot, but usually rolls in one direction, being strongly right-handed. In this case, he was on his belly and didn't quite make it over onto his back. When I found him, he offered some passionate commentary about his predicament.

More post-nap shots (maybe the same day, different nap?). This one looks like late afternoon for the way the sunlight is streaming over him through his blinds, which I always open first, and then talk to him for a minute before picking him up.

Often I come in after a nap to find him practically crawling over the side. Rest assured, he's not near being able to pull himself over, but it's still startling sometimes to find hands clinging to the railing or stuck through the slats along with his legs, as if the bumper weren't even there.

The other shot is just an example Peter climbing on the leg jungle-gym one morning while talking to Daddy.

More recent shots of favorite activities: Peter loves hanging out in front of the big mirror that lives in our upstairs hall en route (supposedly) to a better place. (The mirror, not Peter.)  He's also now rocking the Jumperoo. Literally. I often expect him to break it or just go shooting off through the ceiling with the force of his bouncing.

The wonderful bouncy seat that still lives on our dining room table most of the time and is worth its weight in gold. It's usually where Peter sits during dinner, with or without it's detachable dome o' hangy toys. Looking at the green area, consider whether this child has grown at all.

Peter is reaching for things. But he's yet to figure out how to lift his body, apart from rolling over. In these shots, I think he is more practicing the ways of the force than the ways of crawling.

Yet more wake-up shots. Groggy and excited and rolled against the rail. Surely you've got the picture by now. But just in case...

The high chair makes a great playing station. Except--ahem--with heavy melamine balls over the hard wood floor.  And the finger puppets came in Peter's first Valentine's card from Aunt Anne and Uncle Scott. They sure seem to like this kid.

And we had a sweet visit from Grandaddy Reynolds and Oma a few weeks ago. They stayed with Peter one Saturday while Tom and I got out for a lunch date. A good time was had by all!

So there you have it, a bunch of little insights into this new life we love with our little boy. Tomorrow that life and our sweet little boy turn 6 months old. Extraordinary.

He Knows.

Sometimes you check the baby video monitor expecting to see a sleeping child, only to see him staring right back at you.

Kind of like when you wake up early to get a few extra things done before he's up, and his little sleepy self senses it and he's up too before you're even out of bed.

Snapshots from January

Going through the folder of pictures from the last couple months. For fun, here are some "Day in the Life of Peter" shots from back in January.

Studying his fingers and hanging out in a high chair...

Goofing around with Daddy

Chick-fil-a, and just looking beautiful

Because I can never pick just one:

My big red forehead zit.
My too-small 6-month pajamas.
My many faces in the span of a few moments.

Loving the oatmeal

Peter discovers the mirror above his swing; Mommy discovers it, too.

Speaking of snapshots, we interrupt this Peter post to give evidence of "mommy brain," directly related to pregnancy brain.  Found this in the mug cabinet:

 Happy January!

Anirvin and Peter

This post is mainly for Srinath, Mini, and their son Anirvin (same age as Peter) who came over yesterday for play date and dinner. I took a bunch of shots of Peter and Anirvin in rapid succession, and am posting them all here for them.  For our family, I'm way behind on posting--sorry again!--but here's a start on catching up on what Peter's been up to:

They even spontaneously held hands :)
